Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) Practice Test 2026 - Free LAAD Practice Questions and Study Guide

When a second target appears while you’re working an engagement, you must manage the situation by prioritizing threats and keeping fires deconflicted. The best approach is to quickly reassess which target poses the greater or more immediate threat, then adjust your fire plan so you can engage the primary threat without creating unsafe conditions or risking friendly forces. If the second target is not higher priority, you may hold fire on it for the moment and continue working on the primary until it’s neutralized or until you receive a clear cue to shift. Throughout this process, you should communicate with command to update them on the new target, your current priority, and your fire plan, so they can provide guidance or authorization as needed. This preserves effective defense, minimizes collateral risk, and maintains control of the engagement sequence.

Engaging both targets without deconfliction can lead to unsafe crossfires, wasted ammunition, or missing the primary threat, and simply ignoring the second target while continuing with the first isn’t practical in a dynamic battlefield where threats can evolve rapidly. Aborting the engagement or retreating should only occur if safety or ROE requires it, not as a standard response to a new target.
